Smart #2 electric city car concept unveiled in Rome

Smart unveiled its next‑generation two‑seat electric city car, the Concept #2, at a special event in Rome. The compact vehicle, positioned as the successor to the discontinued Smart ForTwo, features a continuous bench seat, an S‑shaped dashboard and a minimalist interior designed to maximize space despite its ultracompact dimensions.

The car runs on a purpose‑built Electric Compact Architecture (ECA) platform developed by the Smart joint venture of Mercedes‑Benz and Geely. It houses a 35.7 kWh battery that aims for roughly 300 km of WLTP‑rated range and supports DC fast charging that can raise the state of charge from 10 % to 80 % in about 20 minutes. A turning circle of 6.95 m matches that of the last Smart two‑seater, and the platform allows wheel‑base adjustments for future variants.

Smart plans to present the production version at the Paris Motor Show later this year. As CEO Wolfgang Ufer noted, “European cities have always been the natural habitat of the two‑seat Smart; we are writing the next chapter of this iconic concept.”
