Smart launches #2 electric microcar with 300 km range and sub‑€20,000 price

Smart revealed its new fully electric two‑seater, the Smart #2, at a concept presentation in Rome. Built on a dedicated Electric Compact Architecture (ECA) platform, the 2.79‑metre‑long vehicle houses a 35 kWh battery that delivers about 300 km (WLTP) on a single charge. Fast‑charging from 10 % to 80 % takes under 20 minutes, and the car can turn in a 6.95‑metre circle, making it highly manoeuvrable in city traffic.

Smart aims to price the base model at less than €20,000, positioning it among the cheapest electric cars in Europe. The brand plans to showcase the production version at the Paris Motor Show in October 2026, with sales expected to start in the second quarter of 2027 across European markets. The vehicle will be ordered online or through Mercedes‑Benz’s sales network, which will also provide after‑sales support.

Key technical features include a compact chassis designed specifically for ultra‑small electric cars, a continuous bench seat that maximises interior space, a central touchscreen angled toward the driver, and the long‑used Tridion safety cell for crash protection.
