Smart rolls out upgraded #1 electric crossover and previews #2 model

Smart has introduced a major technical upgrade to its #1 electric crossover. The refreshed model now features an 800‑volt architecture, a 333 hp rear‑motor, and a fast‑charging capability that can add 80 % of charge in about 12 minutes. A roof‑mounted LiDAR sensor and a total of 31 driver‑assist sensors, powered by an Nvidia Orin‑Y chip delivering up to 200 TOPS, support advanced city and highway assistance functions. Inside, the cabin receives a 26 cm digital instrument cluster, a 25 cm adaptive head‑up display and a 39 cm 2.5K touchscreen, while a Sennheiser 13‑speaker system provides up to 640 W of sound. Prices in China are estimated between €19,700 and €22,300.

Ahead of its official debut at the Paris Motor Show, details of the upcoming Smart #2 have been leaked by Chinese authorities. The new biplaza measures 2.751 m long, 1.669 m wide and 1.555 m high, with a 1.875 m wheelbase and a curb weight of 1,130 kg. It is powered by an 82 hp (60 kW) electric motor and a 35.7 kWh LFP battery supplied by CATL, offering roughly 300 km WLTP range and a 10‑to‑80 % charge in under 20 minutes. The model includes a five‑arm multi‑link rear suspension, 15‑ or 16‑inch wheels, and a range of personalization options such as two‑tone roofs and custom front‑end graphics. Smart is promoting the #2 with street‑level murals in cities worldwide, including Berlin, Paris, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Buenos Aires and Melbourne.
