Smart to relaunch two‑seater microcar in 2026 as Europe‑focused EV, alongside Chinese Jaegoo 5 SUV debut

Smart, now owned by Mercedes‑Benz and Geely, announced the return of its iconic two‑seat microcar – the Smart #2 – slated for launch in autumn 2026. After previous electric SUV models failed to gain traction in Europe, the brand is developing a bespoke platform for a 2.7 m long pocket‑car, priced around £20,000 (€23,500) and positioned as a premium lifestyle vehicle. Plans include a family of body styles such as a coupe, cabriolet and longer versions.

Chinese automaker Jaegoo introduced the Jaegoo 5 electric compact SUV for the European market. The model is powered by a 211 hp permanent‑magnet motor and a 61 kWh LFP battery delivering a WLTP range of up to 402 km. Fast DC charging at 130 kW enables a 10‑80 % charge in 34 minutes. Priced at €32,490 in France, it offers a suite of interior technologies, including a 13.2‑inch infotainment screen, leather‑like upholstery, pet and camping modes, and extensive connectivity features.
