Smart unveils Smart #2 electric microcar
Smart has unveiled the Smart #2, an all-electric microcar designed to return the brand to its urban roots. Debuting in Paris, the vehicle serves as the spiritual successor to the original two-seater Fortwo, which saw its production end in early 2024.
The Smart #2 measures approximately 2.75 meters in length and features a turning circle of 6.95 meters, prioritizing maneuverability in tight city environments. While it retains the two-seat configuration and the Tridion safety cell, modern pedestrian protection regulations have necessitated a design with a distinct front hood rather than the single-volume silhouette of previous generations.
Built on the new ECA platform, the vehicle is powered by a 60 kW rear motor and a 35.8 kWh LFP battery, offering an estimated range of up to 290 km (WLTP). Charging capabilities include up to 65 kW on fast chargers, allowing a 10% to 80% charge in roughly 20 minutes. The model is expected to reach customers in 2027.
