Smederevo man arrested for suspected murder of his father

A 43-year-old man, identified as I. P., has been arrested for the suspected murder of his 72-year-old father, M. P., in the village of Ralja near Smederevo. The incident occurred on August 22 around 6:00 PM in the family home.

According to police reports, the suspect allegedly struck his father multiple times in the head and body with his hands, leading to the elderly man's death. Reports indicate the suspect may have had a blood alcohol content exceeding 2.0 per mille at the time of the attack. Following the incident, the suspect reportedly surrendered to police, sitting calmly with blood on his hands and clothing.

During his hearing at the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Smederevo, I. P. exercised his legal right to remain silent and offered no defense. Local residents noted that the suspect had recently been released from detention following a previous incident of domestic violence. The prosecution has requested a 30-day detention period, citing risks that the suspect could influence witnesses, repeat the crime, or cause public unrest that might jeopardize the legal proceedings.
