Fatal domestic violence incidents in Serbia

Overview

Separate incidents of fatal domestic violence involving sons killing their fathers have been reported in Serbia.

In the village of Ralja near Smederevo, a 43-year-old man was arrested for the suspected murder of his 72-year-old father. Police reports state the suspect allegedly struck the victim multiple times with his hands. The suspect, who may have been heavily intoxicated, reportedly surrendered to police. The prosecution has requested a 30-day detention period.

In Višnjićevo, near Šid, a man died following an altercation with his son over a dispute regarding loud music. The suspect allegedly beat his father unconscious and then set him on fire using gasoline. Although the victim was transported to the Military Medical Academy in Belgrade, he later succumbed to his injuries. The suspect is currently in police custody.
