Smriti Irani defends electoral roll revision, accuses Rahul Gandhi of seeking regime change
BJP leader Smriti Irani has criticized Rahul Gandhi and the opposition regarding their stance on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Irani defended the process, stating that the revision has successfully verified 90 percent of voters and removed millions of invalid entries, including those of deceased individuals.
Irani accused Gandhi and his partners of seeking an “immoral regime change” by attempting to remove a democratically elected government through protests and attacks on the Chief Election Commissioner. She questioned whether the opposition has provided any concrete proof to the Election Commission to support their claims regarding electoral integrity.
To illustrate the necessity of the SIR, Irani shared an AI-generated video on social media. The video uses a fictional dialogue involving a character resembling Gandhi and a character based on actor Amitabh Bachchan to demonstrate how names of deceased persons can remain on voter lists due to administrative failures, such as missing death certificates.
