SMSEM launches academic scholarships for teachers' children in Mexico

The Sindicato de Maestros al Servicio del Estado de México (SMSEM) has begun accepting applications for its academic achievement scholarship program. The initiative recognizes the academic performance of the children of union members across the 125 municipalities of the State of Mexico.

Jenaro Martínez Reyes, General Secretary of SMSEM, noted that approximately 30 percent of the union's more than 100,000 members have children of school age who meet the minimum grade requirement of 8.5. The organization anticipates receiving over 30,000 applications during this period.

The scholarship system is part of the benefits established in the 2026 Salary and Benefits Agreement, resulting from negotiations between the union leadership and the Government of the State of Mexico, led by Delfina Gómez Álvarez.
