Ed Sheeran mocked by Amelia Dimoldenberg on SNL UK

During her hosting debut on Saturday Night Live UK, comedian Amelia Dimoldenberg mocked Ed Sheeran, referring to him as a “world-famous red-headed puppet with a hand up his arse telling him what to say.” The joke drew on Dimoldenberg’s history with the singer from her YouTube series, Chicken Shop Date, and served as a commentary on the ongoing controversy surrounding Sheeran’s Loop Tour.

The singer has faced scrutiny following the removal of opening act Macklemore from the tour lineup. Macklemore reportedly made pro-Palestinian statements during a performance, leading to his dismissal. Reports suggest that Robert Kraft, owner of Gillette Stadium, pressured Sheeran to remove the rapper from the tour. In response, Sheeran stated that the decision was made by the venue and promoter, not himself, and expressed a desire to avoid public political debates to maintain a “place of safety and sanctuary” for his fans.

Following Macklemore’s removal, other support acts withdrew from the tour in solidarity. Sheeran has since addressed the situation, apologizing to fans in Philadelphia for the difficult decisions and the resulting criticism.
