São Carlos implements Agosto Lilás campaign to combat violence against women

In São Carlos, Brazil, municipal departments conducted various activities throughout August as part of the ‘Agosto Lilás’ campaign, which focuses on raising awareness and preventing violence against women.

The Municipal Secretariat of Social Development and Citizenship, through its Department of Human Rights, held sessions at social assistance centers (CRAS), community centers, and educational institutions. These meetings addressed different forms of violence defined by the Maria da Penha Law, including physical, psychological, sexual, patrimonial, moral, and vicarious violence. The goal was to provide information on rights, warning signs, and how to access protection networks.

Additionally, the Municipal Health Secretariat and the Psychosocial Care Center for Alcohol and Drugs (CAPS AD) organized specialized meetings for women receiving services. These sessions focused on emotional support, self-care, and autonomy to assist in overcoming trauma. Activities included relaxation techniques and discussions on the importance of emotional health and self-esteem in the recovery process.
