São Gonçalo sanitation works expand water and sewage capacity

Águas do Rio is implementing major infrastructure projects in São Gonçalo to improve water supply and sewage treatment. In the Trindade neighborhood, works to install new networks and connections are underway, aiming to provide more regular water distribution to over 16,000 residents by the end of the year.

Simultaneously, a R$ 120 million modernization project is progressing at the São Gonçalo Sewage Treatment Plant (ETE). This expansion includes the construction of new aeration tanks and a secondary decanter, which will increase the facility's capacity to treat 52 million liters of sewage per day. This phase of the project, representing a R$ 57 million investment, is expected to be completed by July of next year and will benefit approximately 300,000 people.

The upgrades include process automation and equipment modernization. The project also aims to provide reclaimed water for the Boa Ventura Energy Complex and contribute to the decontamination of Guanabara Bay by ensuring collected sewage is properly treated.
