Brazil water and sanitation infrastructure upgrades

Water and sanitation infrastructure projects are being implemented across various Brazilian municipalities to improve service reliability and capacity.

In Rio Grande do Sul, the regulatory agency AGERGS inspected water supply systems in Tavares and Mostardas. While Corsan’s services were found to be operationally satisfactory, the agency issued recommendations for improved monitoring, reservoir protection, and equipment modernization, setting a 120-day compliance deadline. Meanwhile, in Duque de Caxias, Águas do Rio is investing R$1.2 million to modernize the Taquara Water Treatment Plant, focusing on structural adaptations and new dosing equipment to secure supply during heavy rains.

In São Gonçalo, Águas do Rio is expanding water and sewage capacity through significant infrastructure works. This includes installing new networks in the Trindade neighborhood to serve 16,000 residents and a R$120 million modernization project at the São Gonçalo Sewage Treatment Plant. The sewage plant expansion, involving a R$57 million investment phase, aims to increase treatment capacity to 52 million liters per day, benefiting approximately 300,000 people and contributing to the decontamination of Guanabara Bay.
