São Gonçalo wildlife center releases rescued reptiles
The Wildlife Release Area (ASAS) in São Gonçalo has released four animals back into their natural habitats following successful rehabilitation. The group included two yacare caimans and two yellow turtles.
One yacare caiman, measuring approximately 1.40 meters, was rescued by the Fire Department in early October and was cleared for release after clinical evaluations confirmed good health. A second caiman, roughly 1.20 meters long, required specialized treatment for malnutrition at a recovery clinic before being deemed fit for release.
The two yellow turtles were rescued by the Maricá Environmental Guard. The release operation was conducted in partnership with the Serra da Tiririca State Park (PESET), managed by the State Institute of the Environment (Inea). ASAS, located in the Estâncias de Pendotiba Environmental Protection Area, specializes in the reception, management, and rehabilitation of wildlife from São Gonçalo and neighboring municipalities.
