Wildlife rescue and rehabilitation in Rio de Janeiro state
Overview
Wildlife authorities in the Rio de Janeiro region have conducted several rescue and rehabilitation operations involving reptiles and other animals.
In Cabo Frio, the Municipal Civil Guard’s Maritime and Environmental Group (GMA) responded to incidents involving a two-meter-long broad-snouted caiman found in a grease trap and a boa constrictor discovered in a residential garden. Both animals were safely handled and released.
In São Gonçalo, the Wildlife Release Area (ASAS) successfully rehabilitated and released four animals, including two yacare caimans and two yellow turtles. The caimans were released following recovery from malnutrition and successful clinical evaluations, while the turtles were released in partnership with the Serra da Tiririca State Park.
