São João da Barra begins coastal erosion study in Atafona and Açu

The municipality of São João da Barra has initiated field activities for a Technical, Economic, and Environmental Feasibility Study (EVTEA) to address coastal erosion in Atafona and Açu. The study, which is expected to last 18 months, involves a team of 29 professionals analyzing ocean data, the Paraíba do Sul river, sediments, and local infrastructure to determine intervention alternatives.

To facilitate community engagement, the local government is establishing the Atafona Erosion Center and the Açu Erosion Center. These climate-controlled modules will serve as information hubs where residents can ask questions, follow study progress, and share personal accounts regarding the impacts of erosion on their community.
