São Paulo and Lisbon metros begin pilot digital upgrades
The São Paulo Metro has started a three‑week pilot of free Wi‑Fi service at the Bresser‑Mooca, Pedro II and Belém stations on Line 3‑Red. Riders connect to the #METRO_WIFI_TESTE network, register with personal details and enjoy speeds of up to 2 Mbps for browsing and streaming. The test, sponsored by PicPay and run with Eletromidia, will inform a rollout to all stations and onboard trains by the end of 2026.
In Lisbon, the Metropolitano de Lisboa is testing a new digital passenger‑information system at the Jardim Zoológico station. The pilot, launched in May, installed digital panels that display real‑time train arrivals, line status and elevator availability. The system will be evaluated for performance and expanded to nine additional stations by the close of 2026.
