São Paulo Court of Accounts conducts surprise school audits

The Court of Accounts of the State of São Paulo (TCESP) conducted its fourth surprise inspection of the year on August 17 to audit school warehouse management across 30 cities in São Paulo.

This follow-up inspection targeted schools where critical issues were identified during a previous audit in March. That earlier assessment revealed that 17% of the 300 cities visited had failed to distribute school supplies to students, and 43% of municipalities reported that students were not using uniforms.

While auditors noted improvements in warehouse controls over the last five months, the TCESP emphasized that municipalities must still strengthen their management of stocks, risks, losses, and acquisitions. Cristiana de Castro Moraes, president of the TCESP, stated that the goal of these inspections is to ensure the effectiveness of public policies and guarantee that materials reach students to support learning.
