São Paulo court removes ankle monitor from PCC money laundering suspect

The São Paulo Court of Justice has authorized the removal of the electronic ankle monitor and the end of nighttime house arrest for Karen de Moura Tanaka Mori, known as ‘Japa do PCC’. The decision, issued by Judge Paula Regina Schempf Cattan, follows the resolution of a legal impasse regarding the suspect's passport.

Mori is under investigation for alleged money laundering linked to the criminal organization Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) in the Baixada Santista region and São Paulo. Authorities allege she used businesses in the beauty, real estate, and family-owned sectors to conceal funds derived from drug trafficking. During her arrest, she was reportedly found with luxury vehicles and significant amounts of cash in both Reais and US Dollars.

While the electronic monitoring and nighttime restrictions have been revoked, Mori remains subject to specific judicial constraints. She is prohibited from leaving the state of São Paulo without prior judicial authorization and must report to court monthly to justify her activities.
