São Paulo drives new metro line and postpones CPTM concession

The São Paulo state government approved a study for a new metro line, designated 22‑brown, that will connect Osasco and Cotia to the Sumaré station on Line 2‑Green. The proposed 29.75 km route will include 19 stations—seven in Cotia, two in Osasco and ten in the capital—and is expected to serve about 678 000 passengers daily, with trips taking roughly 42 minutes.

Governor Tarcísio de Freitas announced that the planned concession of CPTM Lines 10 and 14 will be delayed until service improvements are completed. Investments of around R$350 million will upgrade stations such as Mauá and Santo André, close the current Rio Grande da Serra station and add a new ABC stop. The governor also highlighted the rollout of the European Train Control System (ETCS) signalling to increase train frequency and reduce intervals, shifting the concession timeline beyond the originally targeted 2026 date.
