Tarcísio de Freitas re-elected Governor of São Paulo
Tarcísio de Freitas has been re-elected as the Governor of São Paulo in the first round, securing 62.65% of the valid votes against Fernando Haddad, who received 36.42%. The election results in the capital showed significant concentration, with individual voting zones in São Paulo containing more voters than the entire populations of thousands of Brazilian municipalities.
For his second term, de Freitas has outlined several key priorities. His administration plans to strengthen the 'Casa Paulista' program, aiming to provide housing for 30,000 families living in high-risk areas, including favelas and floodplains. Additionally, the state government has submitted a 2027 budget proposal to the Legislative Assembly totaling R$ 411.2 billion, a 7.56% increase from 2026. This budget prioritizes health, education, and public security, while also allocating significant funds for urban mobility and infrastructure.
Political discussions regarding the next administration are already emerging. Potential names for his future cabinet include Ricardo Salles and Rodrigo Garcia, while political analysts are beginning to consider potential successors in São Paulo should de Freitas pursue the presidency in 2030. De Freitas has also expressed support for constitutional amendments to facilitate fiscal and judicial reforms.
