São Paulo forensic report points to second person in soldier's death

A new forensic report from the São Paulo Institute of Criminalistics has ruled out the possibility that Military Police soldier Gisele Alves Santana committed suicide. The findings, which were attached to the legal proceedings, indicate the involvement of a second person in her death.

Santana died in February in her apartment in the Brás neighborhood of São Paulo. While the case was initially treated as a suicide, investigators now believe it was a premeditated crime. Her husband, Lieutenant Colonel Geraldo Leite Rosa Neto, is currently in preventive detention and faces charges of feminicide and procedural fraud. Prosecutors allege he altered the crime scene to support the initial suicide narrative.

The technical analysis included simulations and tests to reconstruct the circumstances of the death, concluding that the evidence found at the scene was incompatible with the version provided by the accused. Rosa Neto is awaiting trial by a jury and also faces an administrative procedure within the Military Police that could result in the loss of his rank.
