São Paulo rail concession dispute triggers strike and PPP review
A concession contract signed by Governor Tarcísio de Freitas and the private operator Trivia Trens contains a clause that lets the company seek financial compensation for defects on CPTM lines 11‑Coral, 12‑Safira and 13‑Jade that originated before the concession took effect. After a series of technical failures – including a fire – the state agency Artesp ordered CPTM to temporarily retake operation of the three lines for up to 90 days while the issues are investigated.
CPTM workers approved an indicative strike starting 4 August if negotiations with the state government do not produce a solution.
