Tarcísio de Freitas Leads São Paulo Governor Race with Broad Party Alliance and Soninha Francine Senate Nomination

The PSDB‑Cidadania federation held a hybrid convention on 28 July, formally endorsing Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicanos) for re‑election and confirming the Senate candidacy of former city councilor Soninha Francine. The alliance brings together the PL, PSD, MDB, Podemos, Avante, and other parties, giving the coalition control of more than 60 % of São Paulo’s municipalities.

Polling data shows Tarcísio leading the governor contest. Paraná Pesquisas recorded a 63.8 % approval rating for his administration and a 48.5 % first‑round voting intention, while the former minister Fernando Haddad trails with 35.1 % (Paraná Pesquisas) and 26 % in the Genial/Quaest first‑round poll. The Genial/Quaest survey also gave Tarcísio 41 % and Haddad 26 % for the first round and 48 % versus 32 % for a hypothetical second round. A separate Genial/Quaest poll showed Tarcísio with 51.8 % and Haddad 38.3 % in a simulated runoff.

In the Senate race, Soninha Francine received 4.8 % of voter intention, positioned as a centrist alternative to Marina Silva (31 %) and Simone Tebet (30.7 %). Flávio Bolsonaro confirmed his attendance at the Republican convention that will formalise Tarcísio’s re‑election bid, underscoring the close alliance between the two politicians. Despite recent tensions with PSD leader Gilberto Kassab, the PSD reaffirmed its support for Tarcísio, maintaining the coalition’s stability ahead of the October elections.
