São Paulo reports 13 measles cases, urging zero‑dose vaccination

The São Paulo State Health Secretariat (SES‑SP) confirmed 13 measles cases in 2026, affecting infants up to one year old and adults aged 20‑50. Two cases were classified as imported; the remaining eleven were linked to imported virus but acquired locally. All patients recovered and no deaths were reported. In response, SES‑SP has reinstated a “dose zero” of the trivalent measles‑rubella‑mumps (MMR) vaccine for babies aged 6 months to 11 months 29 days living in São Paulo, Guarulhos and São Bernardo do Campo. The zero‑dose is an extra protection and does not replace the routine schedule (first dose at 12 months, second at 15 months). Health officials, including CVE‑SP director Tatiana Lang, are urging parents, caregivers and adults to verify and update their vaccination records, emphasizing that coverage above 95 % is needed to prevent sustained transmission.
