São Paulo Innovation Week blends luxury philosophy with tech outreach to peripheral neighborhoods

During the São Paulo Innovation Week, French philosopher Gilles Lipovetsky delivered a lecture in São Paulo’s Faap theater, analysing contemporary luxury as increasingly accessible yet still prestigious. He noted that “a Chanel lipstick is not a cheap imitation; it is an authentic Chanel, only more affordable,” and highlighted luxury brands such as Hermès for regularly renewing two‑thirds of their products.

The event also extended to four peripheral Community Education Centers, where children and adults interacted with robots, drones and extended‑reality installations. Participants described the experience enthusiastically, with one resident stating, “Foi a primeira vez que pilotei um drone,” and others noting how quickly the youngsters mastered the technology. Organisers emphasized that bringing such innovation to outlying districts aims to foster broader community engagement with emerging tech.

The dual focus of the week showcased both high‑end cultural discourse and grassroots technological education, illustrating the city’s effort to make innovation inclusive across social strata.
