São Paulo leads Brazil in formal job creation in 2026

The state of São Paulo continues to lead Brazil in formal job creation, accounting for 27% of the country's new jobs in the first eight months of 2026. According to Caged data from the Ministry of Labor and Employment, the state created over 306,000 formal positions during this period, with the service sector being the primary driver of growth.

In August, the construction sector saw a recovery in employment after three months of decline, adding approximately 2,800 new jobs across the state. Specific municipalities like Guarulhos have maintained strong economic performance, ranking 5th in cumulative job creation for the year.

To support workforce development, various initiatives are active across the region. The Fundo Social de São Paulo recently concluded a training cycle that graduated 654 students in areas such as gastronomy, technology, and mechanics. Additionally, the municipality of Hortolândia is hosting a job fair featuring 2,000 vacancies across 60 companies to facilitate local employment.
