São Paulo Metro completes tunnel connecting Lines 2 and 4

Excavation of a tunnel connecting the Line 2-Green and Line 4-Yellow of the São Paulo Metro has been completed in the region between Consolação and Paulista avenues. This milestone marks the completion of 78% of the total project.

To ensure the safety of surrounding structures, approximately 480 sensors and measuring instruments were installed to monitor seven nearby buildings in real time. Technical experts noted that the project utilized the New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM), which emphasizes short advances followed by rapid structural lining.

To facilitate the tunnel's path, five foundation piles from neighboring buildings had to be cut. Before this intervention, the load supported by these piles was transferred to other support points to maintain structural stability and prevent differential settlement or damage to the buildings.
