São Paulo officials call for expanded public policies to combat violence against women
Authorities and judicial figures in São Paulo are emphasizing the need for comprehensive public policies to combat violence against women, noting that security measures alone are insufficient.
Adriana Liporoni, the State Secretary for Women's Policies, highlighted several protection initiatives, including the ‘Não se Cale Vai à Escola’ project, which trains educators to identify violence in schools. Other resources mentioned include the ‘Ônibus SP Por Todas’ mobile service, the ‘SP Mulher Segura’ application, and the use of the ‘Panic Button’ to facilitate immediate assistance.
Judge Tereza Cabral of the Santo André Domestic Violence Court noted that Brazil recorded 1,571 feminicides last year, a record high for the fourth consecutive year. São Paulo accounts for 17% of these cases. Cabral argued that effective reduction of violence requires integrated public policies rather than relying solely on public security and law enforcement.
