São Paulo on alert for severe storms and heavy rainfall

The state of São Paulo, Brazil, is on alert for severe weather between Wednesday, September 9, and Sunday, September 13. According to Climatempo, low-pressure areas over southern Brazil and Paraguay are expected to intensify, contributing to a cold front associated with an extratropical cyclone.

Forecasts indicate rainfall accumulations between 100 and 200 millimeters in many areas of central, southern, and eastern São Paulo. In the capital city, accumulations could reach between 150 and 175 millimeters, which is more than double the monthly average of approximately 83 millimeters.

Authorities warn of risks including heavy storms, strong wind gusts, flooding, landslides, falling trees, and power outages. Residents are advised to monitor updates from the Civil Defense.
