São Paulo police urge immediate reporting of missing persons

The Secretariat of Public Security of São Paulo advises families to contact the Military Police (dial 190) as soon as a disappearance is noticed, without waiting 24 hours. A police report can be filed at the nearest precinct or online, and must include contact phone numbers; if the missing person's RG was issued in São Paulo, it is automatically blocked.

After the report, a Disappearance Investigation Procedure is opened. For children or persons with mental disorders, the case escalates to a police inquiry if the individual is not located within 48 hours. Families may also register with the State Prosecutor’s Program of Location and Identification of Missing Persons (PLID), submitting details and photos that can be posted on the program’s social media. Municipal offices provide additional assistance, and in suspected death cases a visit to the Institute of Forensic Medicine is required within 72 hours. When the person is found, a new report is needed to unblock the RG and halt further searches.
