São Paulo Prosecutor Investigates CPTM Failures after Trivia Trens Takeover

The São Paulo Public Prosecutor's Office (MP‑SP) opened a civil inquiry on 28 July to examine serious service disruptions on CPTM commuter lines 11‑Coral, 12‑Safira and 13‑Jade that occurred after the private operator Trivia Trens assumed the concession on 23 July. The probe will assess the power outage that halted service between Brás and Sebastião Gualberto, a fire that damaged a train near Rua Bresser, passengers walking on the tracks, overcrowding at stations and the impact on the Airport Express service. Artesp, the state transport regulator, ordered CPTM to resume direct operation of the lines for up to 90 days while the investigation gathers data on the period under both Trivia Trens and the previous CPTM management.

On 31 July, line 12‑Safira suffered a separate electrical fault that forced trains to run at reduced speed on a single‑track section between Itaim Paulista and Engenheiro Manoel Feio. Service was restored by 14:20 after maintenance crews corrected the problem, and CPTM issued an apology to passengers.
