São Paulo state sees 10% rise in feminicides and over 13 police deaths per week in H1 2026
The São Paulo State Public Security Secretariat released crime statistics for the first half of 2026. Feminicides increased 10% to 142 cases, up from 129 the previous year, although the month of June saw a drop to 17 from 21 in 2025. Protective‑measure violations (MPU) reached 2,099 incidents in June, a 23.3% rise over June 2025, and injuries against women rose to 5,604, a 10.5% increase. Victims of vulnerable rape grew to 848, 129 more than a year earlier.
Police forces were responsible for 356 deaths between January and June 2026, averaging more than 13 deaths per week, a 2.4% decline from 365 deaths in the same period of 2025. Of those, 277 involved police military on duty and 65 involved off‑duty officers. Overall homicides in the state fell 7.3% in the first half of the year.
