Indaiatuba leads with pentacampeonato as cities vie at 68th São Paulo Regional Games

The 68th Jogos Regionais of the 4th Sports Region of São Paulo concluded in Itatiba with several municipalities posting strong performances. Indaiatuba captured the pentacampeonato, amassing 274 points to finish first in the overall ranking, adding titles from 2018, 2019, 2022, 2025 and 2026. The delegation fielded 44 teams across 24 sports and more than 400 athletes.

Guarulhos recorded a historic fourth‑place finish, earning 148 points and a haul of 54 medals (11 gold, 18 silver, 25 bronze), its best result in 16 years. Atibaia placed seventh with 110 points, securing four golds, two silvers and one bronze, highlighted by a men’s taekwondo championship and strong showings in judo and gymnastics.

Ubatuba ended the competition in tenth place with 76 points, achieving notable podium finishes such as silver in women’s team swimming, bronze in men’s table tennis, and strong results in gymnastics and chess. The top‑ranking municipalities will now turn attention to the upcoming 88th Jogos Abertos do Interior in Votuporanga, slated for October.

Overall, the event featured 32 cities, 478 teams and more than 3,600 athletes competing in a wide range of disciplines, underscoring the growing importance of regional sport development in São Paulo.
