São Paulo faces measles alert as vaccination campaign intensifies

Brazil is facing a measles alert following 18 confirmed cases in 2026, with 16 of those occurring in the state of São Paulo. The outbreak, largely linked to imported cases, has prompted health authorities to recommend indiscriminate vaccination for residents aged 6 months to 59 years in the cities of São Paulo, Guarulhos, and São Bernardo do Campo.

To increase accessibility, vaccination posts have been established at five São Paulo Metro stations—Tucuruvi, Vila Prudente, São Mateus, Corinthians-Itaquera, and Vila Matilde—running through August 28. The Ministry of Health has also launched a 2026 Multivaccination Campaign targeting children and adolescents under 15, which includes the new 20-valent pneumococcal vaccine. The campaign is scheduled to run until September 1, with a national 'D-Day' set for August 22.

Recent efforts in São Paulo have seen high demand, with long lines reported at many vaccination sites. In the capital, nearly 300,000 doses were administered during the first week of the campaign.
