Brazil authorizes billions in credit for state and municipal infrastructure

The Brazilian Ministry of Finance has authorized credit operations totaling R$ 12.9 billion for five states: São Paulo, Piauí, Maranhão, Pernambuco, and Rondônia. These funds are earmarked for infrastructure, urban mobility, sanitation, and highways. São Paulo is set to receive R$ 5.4 billion for metro and train projects, including expansions of Lines 5-Lilás and 6-Laranja. Piauí will receive R$ 4.9 billion for transport, urbanization, and digital transformation, while Maranhão, Pernambuco, and Rondônia will receive R$ 1.3 billion, R$ 985 million, and R$ 323 million respectively.

Separately, the Federal Senate approved 16 external credit operations totaling nearly US$ 2 billion for various states and municipalities. These include US$ 701 million for São Paulo to fund bus fleet electrification and hospital restructuring, US$ 204 million for Belo Horizonte for environmental and sanitation projects, and US$ 150 million for Maceió for urban mobility. Additionally, Salvador received approval for US$ 190 million in credit aimed at social and Afro-Brazilian cultural tourism projects.
