São Paulo to host Kinoforum and PERIFERICU film festivals
São Paulo will host two significant film and culture festivals in late 2026. The 37th Kinoforum – International Short Film Festival of São Paulo is scheduled for August 20 to 30, featuring 260 short films from 58 countries. The free program includes 127 Brazilian and 133 international productions, with screenings across various cultural spaces such as the Cinemateca Brasileira and CineSesc. This edition highlights a record number of female filmmakers and includes works from major festivals like Cannes and Berlinale.
Additionally, the second edition of PERIFERICU – International Film and Peripheral Culture Festival will take place from September 1 to 6 in the Jardim Ibirapuera region. Organized by Maloka Filmes, the event focuses on TLGB+ filmmakers from the peripheries of Brazil and Latin America. The festival includes film screenings, musical performances—such as samba, funk, and reggae—and debates regarding the criminalization of peripheral culture. Special awards will be presented to honor community and revolutionary filmmaking.
