São Tomé and Príncipe strengthens ties with Mozambique and Portugal

Following the re-election and inauguration of President Carlos Vila Nova in São Tomé and Príncipe, several nations are moving to strengthen bilateral ties with the island nation.

Mozambique's Prime Minister, Maria Benvinda Levi, proposed the creation of dedicated working groups to transform existing opportunities into concrete projects. While the two countries already cooperate in political-diplomatic spheres and professional training—specifically in medicine, policing, and justice—the focus is shifting toward economic sectors such as trade, agriculture, and fisheries. Potential areas for expansion include the exchange of cocoa and coffee from São Tomé and Príncipe for Mozambican agricultural expertise.

Simultaneously, Portuguese Prime Minister Luís Montenegro announced preparations for a bilateral summit between Portugal and São Tomé and Príncipe. The summit aims to deepen cooperation across multiple levels and encourage investment from Portuguese companies within the country.
