Soča Valley faces heavy pressure from mass tourism

The Soča Valley in Slovenia is experiencing significant pressure from mass tourism, particularly during the peak months of July and August. Visitors have reported long queues at popular natural sites, such as the Kozjak Waterfall near Kobarid, and difficulties finding parking and space in restaurants and shops.

Data indicates that the Tolmin Gorges received 140,243 visitors in 2025, with peak summer months reaching the upper limits of the area's capacity. This influx has led to increased noise, traffic congestion, and environmental pressure on the region. To avoid the crowds and preserve the sense of wilderness, travelers are encouraged to visit during the shoulder seasons, such as May, June, September, or early autumn.
