SOAPHYS 8th Congress focuses on physics for energy and agriculture in Burkina Faso
The 8th Congress of the West African Society of Physics (SOAPHYS) opened on 29 July 2026 at the University Joseph Ki‑Zerbo in Ouagadougou. The opening ceremony was led by Minister Makaïlou Sidibé, representing the Ministry of Construction of the Patri, alongside senior officials from higher education and agriculture ministries.
The congress, themed “Supporting access to energy, sustainable agriculture and food security through applied physics,” brought together researchers, doctoral students, university representatives, industry partners and technical sponsors from across West Africa and beyond. Organisers highlighted the role of physics in renewable energy, precision agriculture, water management, industrial innovation, digital education and artificial‑intelligence‑driven solutions. Participants will adopt a final declaration intended to guide the development and promotion of applied physics in the region.
