Social Health Authority issues deadline for healthcare provider contract renewals

The Social Health Authority (SHA) has announced that current healthcare provider contracts will expire on September 30, 2026, at 11:59 PM. To ensure continuity of service, providers must complete the contracting process for the 2026–2029 cycle before October 1, 2026.

Failure to secure an executed contract will result in providers being barred from serving SHA beneficiaries and having their access to the SHA provider portal deactivated. SHA CEO Mercy Mwangangi advised facilities with ongoing patient care to arrange transfers to contracted providers to avoid treatment interruptions.

Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale recently launched the HAKIKA contracting framework and a new E-Contracting Platform. The HAKIKA framework is designed to improve transparency, payment predictability, and dispute resolution. The digital platform enables providers to submit applications, upload documentation, and verify licenses electronically. The new contracting cycle will cover services funded through the Primary Health Care Fund (PHCF), Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), Emergency, Chronic and Critical Illness Fund (ECCIF), and the Public Officers Medical Scheme Fund (POMSF).
