Social media engagement and followers drive Brazilian consumer behavior

Recent data indicates that Brazilian consumers are increasingly influenced by digital credibility signals, such as follower counts, engagement rates, and public reviews, before evaluating products or services. According to the CX Trends 2026 research conducted by Octadesk and Opinion Box, 94% of Brazilians access social media daily, with Instagram being the preferred platform for 87% of respondents.

This phenomenon is driven by the psychological concept of social proof, where individuals view choices as more reliable if they perceive others have validated them. This effect is reinforced by platform algorithms; for instance, Instagram tests new content with a small segment of followers before expanding reach based on positive reactions. Consequently, accounts with lower engagement often face reduced organic reach.

Regarding small businesses, data from Sebrae shows a significant shift in digital presence. Currently, 94% of Brazilian micro and small enterprises active on social media maintain an Instagram profile, a substantial increase from the 25% recorded in 2018.
