Social Security Administration begins August 2026 benefit payments

The Social Security Administration (SSA) has begun the August 2026 disbursement cycle for retirement, survivor, and disability benefits. The first round of payments was scheduled for Wednesday, August 12, for beneficiaries with birthdays falling between the 1st and 10th of the month.

Following the standard monthly schedule, the next payment waves are set for August 19 (birthdays 11th–20th) and August 26 (birthdays 21st–31st). Individuals who began receiving benefits before May 1997, or those receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI), typically receive payments earlier in the month.

While current payments are proceeding as scheduled, SSA trustees have noted long-term financial concerns, projecting that the retirement trust fund could face depletion around 2032 without congressional intervention.
