Social Security Administration begins September payment rounds
The first round of September Social Security payments is scheduled to be issued in four days. The Social Security Administration distributes payments in three waves based on birth dates: the first round begins shortly, the second round for those born between the 11th and 20th occurs on Sept. 16, and the third round for those born on or after the 21st occurs on Sept. 23.
Monthly payment amounts are determined by factors such as retirement age and lifetime contributions. For example, a beneficiary retiring at age 62 may receive up to $2,969 per month, while a 70-year-old retiree could receive up to $5,181 per month.
Social Security is funded through payroll taxes paid by employees and employers. However, a report from trustees indicates that the retirement fund is projected to run out by 2032 due to a shrinking workforce and an increasing number of retirees, unless Congress takes legislative action.
