France prepares for 2027 presidential election and political shifts

France's political landscape is shifting as preparations for the 2027 presidential election intensify. The Parti socialiste and Place publique have officially ratified an agreement to hold a social-democratic primary. The two-round electronic vote is scheduled for October 9-10 and October 16-17. Current declared candidates include Raphaël Glucksmann, Ségolène Royal, Philippe Brun, and Jérôme Guedj. The Gauche républicaine et socialiste (GRS) has also joined the primary process.

Polling indicates a competitive race. Marine Le Pen maintains a strong lead with 33% to 35% of first-round intentions, while Jean-Luc Mélenchon of La France insoumise shows significant momentum, trailing slightly behind Édouard Philippe in some configurations. Meanwhile, former President François Hollande is also being discussed as a potential candidate.

Separately, singer Patrick Bruel is facing intense political and public pressure regarding his upcoming autumn tour. Following multiple allegations of sexual violence and ongoing judicial investigations, Minister Aurore Bergé has stated that the conditions for his concerts are not currently met, suggesting he should consider canceling the tour himself. Several mayors have also expressed opposition to his performances in their cities.
