Portugal education sector faces parliamentary inquiry over exam digitalization

Portugal's political landscape is facing tension regarding the education sector as a parliamentary inquiry (CPI) into national exam digitalization issues moves forward. The Socialist Party (PS) has unanimously decided to vote in favor of the inquiry proposed by the Left Bloc, citing the “dismantling of the Ministry of Education” and a lack of clear responses to their inquiries.

Education Minister Fernando Alexandre has criticized the Socialist Party, accusing them of focusing on obstructing reforms and protecting established interests rather than offering constructive ideas. Despite this friction, the Minister expressed readiness to participate in the inquiry, noting that his ministry has provided extensive information regarding external evaluations.

Meanwhile, local criticism persists regarding the start of the school year, with concerns raised over teacher shortages and insufficient funding for school renovations in regions like Setúbal.
