Sodra: 4.6 million euros in sickness benefits left unclaimed
Over the last 12 months, more than 4.6 million euros in sickness benefits have remained unclaimed in Lithuania because residents failed to submit the necessary applications.
To address this, Sodra has sent reminders via email and personal accounts to approximately 28,000 individuals. Once a request is submitted, it remains valid indefinitely, meaning no new application is required for subsequent illnesses, care for family members, or injuries, provided the individual meets the established conditions.
Benefits can also be claimed retroactively, provided the request is made within 12 months of the end of the period of incapacity. Eligibility depends on having sufficient social insurance seniority. Employers cover the first two days of incapacity, while Sodra pays from the third day onwards for standard illness, or from the first day for family care or workplace accidents.
