Overview

In Lithuania, the State Social Insurance Fund Board (Sodra) identified approximately €4.6 million in unpaid sickness benefits that went unclaimed over a 12-month period. To facilitate recovery of these funds, Sodra issued electronic reminders to roughly 28,000 residents.

Guidelines clarify that residents can claim these benefits retroactively if requested within 12 months of the incapacity period. While employers cover the first two days of standard illness, Sodra provides payments from the third day, or from the first day in cases of workplace accidents or family care. Once an application is submitted, it remains valid for future eligible claims.
