Sodra warns of scammers impersonating couriers to steal data
Scammers in Lithuania are using new tactics to steal personal data by impersonating couriers and officials from the State Social Insurance Fund (Sodra). Fraudsters have been contacting residents, sometimes speaking Russian, claiming they need to deliver a letter from Sodra and requesting personal identification codes or other sensitive information.
In one reported instance, a scammer posed as an Omniva courier to solicit personal data. Sodra has clarified that it only sends documents and correspondence through Lietuvos paštas or its subcontractor, Samus, via registered mail. Official mail carriers typically only require a signature to confirm delivery and will not ask for personal identification codes, bank login details, or passwords.
Authorities advise citizens to remain vigilant, avoid sharing sensitive information with strangers, and report suspicious calls or individuals to both Sodra and the police.
