Sofia Central Station train services disrupted by equipment failure
Train movement through Sofia Central Station was suspended for approximately six hours due to an electrical equipment failure. The National Railway Infrastructure Company reported that the disruption began at 11:55 AM after a pantograph was damaged during locomotive shunting, leaving the contact network without voltage.
The incident forced the cancellation of several commuter trains, specifically routes between Sofia and Pernik, as well as Sofia and Kostenets. To maintain some level of service, diesel locomotives were deployed to transport carriages, though many trains experienced delays of over two hours.
Service was restored by 5:35 PM, but Bulgarian State Railways (BDZ) noted that schedules remain significantly disrupted. Authorities stated that efforts are underway to normalize the timetable.
